The Dusty and Monroe Show

On Saturday, August 6th I was invited to photograph some very talented drag performers at The Dusty and Monroe Show, at the Spotlight Bar & Grill in Binghamton, New York. There I met with divas Dusty Boxx, Monroe Segwick, Katrina, Dede Kupps, Samantha Vega, Cherrie Blase, and Peaches. All night DJ Mick Kept up the energy in between sets giving these queens a chance to get ready for their next performance. Being back stage I got to see just how much work goes into hosting a drag show. I found myself dodging divas in six inch heals, clouds of setting powder, and outfits galore. It was all hands on deck as they helped one another zip, tie, lace, and fix face and run upstairs for their next number.

The energy was palpable and the audience loved it, and I did too! I was up and down stairs and chasing the divas on the dance floor looking for the next photo opportunity. Little did I know how hard it is to photograph a drag show. There were flips, dips, and even chair dancing! In order to get the perfect angle I had to move quickly and stay alert so I didn't get trampled by some very pointy high heel shoes. By the end of the night I was exhausted and very grateful for the opportunity to get to know these wonderful performers and get a glimpse of the behind the scenes action. I highly recommend anyone who's interested in a fun night with great music, and live performances to stop by the Spotlight Bar & Grill for The Dusty and Monroe Show the first Friday of every month in Binghamton, NY.
